BRUXISM or TEETH GRINDING
18/12/2023
BRUXISM or TEETH GRINDING is a fairly common phenomenon - intense clenching and grinding of teeth, most often occurring during sleep. The reasons for this problem are usually stress and a tense lifestyle.
Signs of bruxism:
-headaches upon waking;
-pain and stiffness in jaw muscles after sleeping;
-tooth enamel deterioration;
-increased tooth sensitivity;
-shortening of teeth;
-faster wear of fillings and crowns;
-instability of veneers.
There are various techniques to address this problem, including stress management. Here are 3 effective ones that we offer at Aesthetica clinic:
1.BOTULINUM TOXIN INJECTIONS are an effective therapeutic tool for the treatment of bruxism, which can significantly improve the patient's quality of life. Injections are made directly into the jaw muscles to reduce their strength and activity. The dose is individually adjusted, depending on the patient's needs and the strength of the jaw muscles.
The procedure can be repeated every 4 to 12 months. As botulinum toxin relaxes the chewing muscle, over time it becomes weaker and the injections may not need to be repeated at all.
Before therapy, it is important to precisely diagnose bruxism, assessing the patient's symptoms and the condition of the jaw muscles. After injections, regular patient status checks are necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy and to determine the need for repeated treatment.
2.PHYSIOTHERAPY. The specialist assesses the jaw joint, the associated muscles, and develops a therapy plan that includes various massage techniques and exercises. These are learned during an in-person visit and can then be continued at home. In addition to the exercises, a course of at least 5 massages is recommended for relaxing the shoulder girdle and jaw muscles.
3.NIGHT DENTAL GUARDS. The best are custom-made dental guards to be worn during sleep. The dentist takes an impression and the dental technician makes the guard from a special material that covers the teeth and protects them from wear.
